Trail of Águia do Sarilhão

The Trail of Águia do Sarilhão, located in Campo do Gerês, has a heritage of strong cultural and ethnographic traditions. This footpath of short route (SR), of historical and cultural context, has a length of 9 km, about 3 hours long and has an average degree of difficulty. It stretches through a flattened land of a broad valley, through which the Ribeiro de Rodas goes, between the Ethnographic Museum and the left bank of the dam reservoir of Vilarinho das Furnas, this being its North end. It runs through the rural settlements of this ancient village and reveals, through the narrow paths, the granaries and houses with their summit crosses and balconies with customary woodwork open to the patio.

From the heritage legacy the Via Nova XVIII (Geira) stands out with distinction passing by miles XXVII, XXVIII and XXIX and the core of Roman standards. Nearby mile XXIX increase indelible traces from the trench of Campo that, in the Middle Ages served as the defense of Portuguese boundary in hostile invasions. Set in an important area of the Peneda Gerês National Park, this trail is close to other places of interest such as the Fraga do Sarilhão, the National Forest of Albergaria and the extinct community village of Vilarinho das Furnas.
